revolutiontrade's master. Master notes: Australia Day performance with a speech the show by Jarrod Draper honoring the Aboriginal people, and one following the show by Callum Francis honoring Jonathan Larson and the 25th Anniversary of Rent on Broadway. Absolutely phenomenal cast and production with a couple of alterations to musical arrangements and added lines of dialogue (including the addition of they/them pronouns for Angel, and a substitute for mooing in ‘Over the Moon’ due to the pandemic). Act 2 started with what I can only call a jam session of ‘Seasons of Love’. The cast slowly came together with either an instrument, their voices, or to dance which lasted about five minutes before the second act officially started and the energy in the room was pure magic. Truly a special performance of a fantastic production, with an enthusiastic audience.

SRT is Summer Rep Theatre in Santa Rosa, but I couldn't find info on whether Actors' Project (the label on the file) is the professional or the community college version. Either way, this is a slightly odd selection of highlights. The sound quality is great, although the audience comes across much louder than the singers. Cast quality is variable, but there are some unusual and really interesting line readings (and one absolutely hilarious one), and the choral singing sounded fantastic.

This was the closing night of a regional immersive production of the show where the theatre was turned into the Life Cafe and the audience sat around the main table. This cast was wonderful and huge standouts include Matt, Jenna and Allison. The director of the production is the understudy for Angel and does an amazing job.

A beautiful quality audio recorded in the left side orchestra. This crowd is a lot more lively and receptive than the matinee and there’s more fun moments because of it. Act 1 was stopped after Today4U due to technical difficulties with mics. Collins and Angel’s mics were not working during Enter Tom Collins and Today4U so they restarted the numbers after the mics were fixed. Angel makes a little joke about the situation. It won't translate well in audio, but this was definitely the most "out there" production of Rent I've ever seen. The show starts with confessionals from people that lived through the Aids crisis during this time. The cast themselves are phenomenal and sing extremely well. Some tech issues here and there (music drowning out vocals or vocals drowning out music) and Mimi misses a line in "Without You." The teens next to me were totally confused so you may hear them discussing what was happening. You also may hear my sister ask what was happening during "Contact."

I thought my audio would come out a bit blown out so Act 2 may sound a bit quieter than Act 1. There was also a lady behind me coughing a bit that can be heard in the middle of Act 1 & Act 2 after a number ends. Olivia was very sick, but did the damn thing as best as she could (they ended up having to cancel the evening show). There were a few mic issues with this performance (some not turned on when characters started singing) and a lot of feedback during “Take Me or Leave Me” due to Joanne and Maureen’s earrings hitting their mics. I believe this was Lauryn’s debut as Maureen because there was extra applause by the cast when she took her bow. Lauryn misses a line in “Take Me or Leave Me.”
